Investment Management in Long Branch

Before we suggest a single trade, we go through your accounts line by line: what you hold, what it costs you and how much risk you are really carrying. You get clear findings first, then a portfolio we manage with you over the long term.

What investment management means here

Investment management is the ongoing work of choosing, monitoring and adjusting the investments in your portfolio so they keep serving your goals. It covers brokerage accounts, IRAs, old workplace plans and anything else you have saved over the years.

Many people who come to us have accounts scattered across three or four firms, picked at different points in life for different reasons. Nobody has looked at them together. That is where we start. We review everything side by side, tell you plainly what is working and what is not, and only then talk about changes.

Some clients want us to handle the day-to-day decisions. Others want a second set of eyes and a clear recommendation they act on themselves. We can talk through which fits you in your first meeting.

What the work includes

A full portfolio review
We gather statements from every account and map out what you own. You see your real mix of stocks, bonds and cash, including overlap you may not know about, like the same large companies held in four different funds.
A plain cost breakdown
Fund expense ratios, account fees and trading costs add up quietly. We list them so you can see what you pay each year and where it goes.
An allocation built for your timeline
Money you need in two years should not sit where money for thirty years sits. We match each part of the portfolio to when you will actually use it.
Ongoing monitoring and rebalancing
Markets pull a portfolio away from its target over time. We check it on a regular schedule and bring it back in line, with an eye on the tax effect of each move.
Regular check-ins
We meet at our office or by phone and video to go over results, life changes and anything that has you worried. You always know why your money is where it is.

Signs it may be time for a closer look

  • You are not sure what you own

If you could not describe your portfolio without logging in to several sites, it probably has not been reviewed as a whole.

  • Old accounts left behind

A 401(k) from a job you left years ago often sits in default funds nobody chose on purpose.

  • A big swing caught you off guard

When a market drop hurts more than you expected, your portfolio may carry more risk than your plans can handle.

  • You hold a lot of one stock

Employer shares or one favorite company can quietly become a large share of your wealth. That is worth a careful conversation.

  • Retirement is getting close

The years just before and after you stop working are when the mix of investments matters most, and when a mistake is hardest to undo.

From first conversation to ongoing care

  1. 1

    A first conversation

You tell us what you have saved, what you hope that money will do and what worries you about it. Nothing gets sold or moved at this stage. It is simply a chance for both of us to see whether we are a good fit.

  2. 2

    Statement review and findings

Send us your recent statements and we study every account closely. Then we sit down together and explain what turned up in everyday language, including the pieces that are already working well.

  3. 3

    A recommendation you can weigh

Changes come up only once the findings make sense to you. Each suggestion arrives with its reason and any tax cost of acting on it, so the decision stays yours with the full picture in front of you.

  4. 4

    Management over the long term

With your go-ahead, we put the changes in place and keep an eye on them. When the mix drifts we rebalance, and we meet on a regular schedule to adjust as your life shifts.

What affects the cost

Investment management fees vary with how much work your situation takes. We explain exactly how we are paid before you commit to anything, so there are no surprises later. Here is what tends to move the cost.

Size of the portfolio
The amount of money we manage is often the main driver of the fee.
Number and type of accounts
Several IRAs, taxable accounts, trusts and old workplace plans take more coordination than a single account.
Complexity
Concentrated stock positions, business assets or careful tax planning around sales add work to the review and to ongoing management.
How involved you want us to be
Full day-to-day management costs differently than a periodic review with recommendations you carry out yourself.

Questions about investment management

Something not covered here? (732) 696-7048

Will you sell everything I own and start over?

No. We look at each holding on its merits, and plenty of what clients bring us is worth keeping. Selling can trigger taxes and costs, so we only recommend changes that clearly earn their keep. You see the reasoning before anything happens.

Do I have to move my accounts to work with you?

Not to start. The first steps are a conversation and a review of your statements. Where accounts are held long term is something we decide together after you have seen our findings.

Can you help with my current employer's 401(k)?

Yes, we can review the fund choices in your plan and suggest how to divide your contributions. We look at it alongside your other accounts so the whole portfolio fits together.

How often will we talk?

We set a regular schedule of check-ins that suits you, at our office or by phone and video. You can also reach us between meetings when something changes, like a new job, an inheritance or a big purchase.

Can you promise a certain return?

No honest advisor can. What we can do is build a portfolio that matches your goals and comfort with risk, keep costs in view and explain clearly how it is doing. Clients from Long Branch to Red Bank tell us that clarity matters more to them than any forecast.
